River Erosion Causes Highway Collapse in Nepal
30 Aug
Summary
- A landslide and road collapse occurred on the Prithvi Highway in Dhading.
- The Trishuli River's erosion and strong currents caused the road to give way.
- Traffic and pedestrian movement are banned due to the hazardous conditions.

Traffic has been severely disrupted on Nepal's Prithvi Highway following a landslide and road collapse in Dhading. The incident occurred in the Krishnabhir area on Sunday, triggered by erosion from the Trishuli River. The river's swollen state and strong currents eroded the road and its retaining wall, leading to the collapse.
The highway is now blocked in both directions, bringing all vehicular traffic to a standstill. Officials have warned that the damaged section is extremely dangerous and continues to subside. Consequently, pedestrian movement has also been prohibited in the affected area for safety reasons.
The road has caved in significantly, making passage hazardous. The situation remains critical as the stability of the remaining road structure is uncertain. Efforts to assess the damage and plan for repairs are likely to be complicated by the ongoing river conditions.
