Miracle Rescues: 97-Year-Old and Toddlers Survive Nepal Flood

Amidst the widespread destruction of homes, schools, and infrastructure caused by Nepal's Aug 26 flood, stories of survival have offered glimmers of hope. Two two-year-old girls and a 97-year-old woman were among those who emerged from the Bhote Koshi-Trishuli corridor disaster. The young survivors, Sabya and Kabya Munakami, were listed as safe in the government's database, found in Bidur Municipality-3.

On the other end of the age spectrum, Guna Maya Bohara, 97, survived by remaining trapped for approximately eight to nine hours in mud and debris after her care home was engulfed. Rescuers and relatives worked tirelessly, using heavy machinery to clear a path and free her. Despite the ordeal and her advanced age, Bohara suffered no significant injuries and was later taken to Bir Hospital in Kathmandu.

Adding to the recovery efforts, China fully reopened the G216 national highway to the Gyirong border crossing into Nepal a week after it was washed away. This restoration of access allows heavy machinery to reach the disaster zone, facilitating ongoing rescue and relief operations.
