- Over 900 hydropower workers missing after disaster.
- Rescue efforts focus on muddy hydropower sites.

A woman in Wales has expressed profound distress as she awaits any news of a family member missing in Nepal after a massive flash flood last week. Jyoti Upadhyay, residing in Ceredigion, Wales, has been unable to ascertain the whereabouts of Jit Bahadur Chaudhary, a hydropower station worker.
Chaudhary was employed at the Trishuli 3B site in Bagmati Province. As of Monday morning, 933 hydropower workers were reported missing across Nepal, part of a total of 4,247 unaccounted for individuals, with at least 903 confirmed deaths. Rescue operations are primarily concentrated on the Trishuli 3A and 3B hydropower project sites, which feature tunnels.
Nepali authorities are employing controlled blasts to access areas blocked by debris and mud. Upadhyay described the site as submerged under meters of mud, making searches extremely difficult. Communication lines were severed quickly following the event, complicating efforts to gather information. Tourists were also among the missing in the region, a significant area for religious pilgrimage.
The disaster originated from a glacial collapse, registering a 5.2 magnitude tremor and unleashing floodwaters and debris over 62 miles. While the region is accustomed to natural disasters like earthquakes, the scale of this flooding was unprecedented. Concerns are rising about increased glacial melt and collapse due to global warming.
