Eight workers from Assam, who were stranded by devastating flash floods in Nepal on August 26, have returned home late Sunday. The men were working at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project when the disaster struck, washing away parts of the valley. Survivors recounted hearing a massive sound and immediately fleeing for safety. They spent two days on a hilltop with no food or clean water before Nepalese military helicopters spotted and supplied them. They were later transported to Kathmandu.
Six other Assam residents also returned, identifying six more colleagues from Nagaon, Nalbari, and Karbi Anglong districts who are still missing since the floods. In total, thirteen Assam residents were employed at the hydropower project. The Assam government has established helpline numbers to assist residents affected by the floods in Nepal, with families of the missing also reaching out for information.
