Storms Batter NC: Homes Damaged, Concertgoers Evacuated

Central North Carolina is currently engaged in cleanup operations following a night of severe storms. These storms brought sheets of heavy rain and strong winds, leading to considerable damage to homes, particularly in Wake County. In downtown Raleigh, the Red Hat Amphitheater was evacuated Tuesday night during a Bob Dylan concert due to detected lightning.

Power outages affected a significant portion of the population, with about 12,000 people in Wake County experiencing a loss of electricity late Tuesday evening. Flooded streets and yards were also reported in various locations. Emergency services were busy responding to incidents, including a falling tree that struck a fire truck on its way to a call, causing minor damage but no injuries.

Specific neighborhoods near Raleigh-Durham International Airport, such as on Big Creek Road and Pinecrest Road, were heavily impacted. On Big Creek Road, a large oak tree fell onto a house, and authorities initiated a search for a resident who was reportedly last seen on the second floor. Another tree fell on a house on Country Court, destroying at least three cars, though the residents were unharmed.
