A fatal accident occurred on Saturday night in Nashik when a 33-year-old man, Siddharth Gore, died after his motorcycle collided with a pipe laid across a road work site in Satpur. His friend, who was a passenger, sustained injuries and is receiving medical attention. The incident, which took place around 11:30 PM near the Krushinagar Jogging Track, sparked a protest by Gore's family and local residents.
On Sunday, protesters carried Gore's body to the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) headquarters, demanding immediate action against the contractor and the filing of a culpable homicide case. They alleged that inadequate safety measures, including poor visibility due to darkness, rain, and mud, contributed to the accident. The protesters briefly gheraoed the city engineer and spoke with the municipal commissioner, who promised an inquiry to fix responsibility and assured financial assistance and a potential job for Gore's wife.
The municipal corporation, however, stated that safety precautions like reflectors and signboards were in place, suggesting the vehicle was speeding. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and a postmortem report is awaited. Gangapur police have registered an accidental death case.
