A shocking incident unfolded in Kamptee, near Nagpur, where a 72-year-old woman was discovered in a critical state beside the body of her 50-year-old son. The son, Suresh Bawane, is believed to have died at least 72 hours before the discovery on Sunday. The grim scene was brought to light when a neighbor reported a strong, foul odor emanating from the hut near the Ramabai railway crossing.
Responding police officers found Lakshmi Bawane lying on a cot, extremely weak and unable to communicate. She was immediately transported to a hospital in a critical condition. Authorities stated that her rescue was timely, preventing further deterioration. Suresh Bawane, who reportedly ran an ironsmith shop, was known to struggle with alcoholism and suffered from severe jaundice. His body was sent for an autopsy.
The incident has cast a shadow of concern over the living conditions and the prevalent issue of elderly isolation within the community. Police were in the process of registering an accidental death report.
