On Monday morning, health authorities established temporary field outpatient departments (OPDs) in Godhani Railway township, near Nagpur, following a chlorine gas leak. The incident, which began around 12:30 AM, originated from a 900-kg chlorine gas cylinder. It affected approximately 172 houses, impacting an estimated 684 residents within a 300-meter radius.
Medical teams from various government health facilities were deployed to survey the affected area and treat residents reporting symptoms such as watery eyes and coughing. Several children received medical attention at the established OPDs. While the situation was declared under control, medical teams continued surveillance as a precautionary measure.
Eleven ASHA workers assisted in the response, conducting door-to-door surveys. One ASHA worker was admitted to IGGMCH due to vomiting after exposure. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) deployed a mobile unit, confirming by 11 AM that the area was free of toxic gas and air quality had returned to safe levels.
