Pit Drowning: Two Boys Die, Third Critical in Muzaffarpur

Two young lives were tragically lost on Sunday in Muzaffarpur's Aurai area when they drowned in a pit filled with water. A third boy involved in the incident is currently being treated at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH). The children had reportedly gone to bathe in the pit, located approximately 500 meters from their village, Bedaul, within the Janar panchayat.
Eyewitnesses and villagers stated that the boys, while playing, fell into the unexpectedly deep water. Alerted by cries, local residents rushed to the scene and managed to pull all three children out. However, doctors at SKMCH declared two of them, identified as Kaush Kumar (12) and Satyam Kumar (9), deceased. Ramanand Rai (13) is the boy receiving treatment.
Locals have pointed fingers at illegal soil excavation from government fallow land in the Pitaojhia border area, suggesting this activity created the deep pit that became a hazard after filling with rainwater. The village head, Sangeeta Devi, has called for an administrative inquiry, demanding action against illegal mining if confirmed and urging the administration to identify and secure such dangerous spots to prevent future tragedies.
