Rail connectivity between Mumbai and Pune has been significantly impacted and is expected to remain disrupted until July 17. Multiple landslides occurred on the Bhor Ghat section, specifically between Karjat and Lonavala stations, following heavy downpours on July 6. These landslides severely damaged all three railway lines in the ghat section.
Central Railway has canceled 30 train services, including daily intercity and long-distance trains such as the Deccan Queen and CSMT-Hyderabad Express. Restoration efforts are underway on a war footing. However, the challenging terrain and dangerous working conditions are delaying the complete resumption of normal services.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the extensive damage. While one of the three railway lines has been restored, work continues on the remaining two. Transporting construction materials to affected sites presents a logistical challenge, with railway teams collaborating with local authorities to expedite repairs.
