28 Apr
Summary
- Family of four died from suspected food poisoning after a meal.
- Samples of watermelon and chicken pulao sent for analysis.
- Police investigate if it was suicide or accidental poisoning.

A family of four in Mumbai died under suspicious circumstances, with initial investigations pointing towards food poisoning. The Dokadia family, residents of Ghari Mohalla, consumed watermelon and chicken pulao hours after hosting a get-together on Saturday night.
In the early hours of Sunday, Abdullah Dokadia, his wife Nasreen, and their daughters Ayesha and Zaineb experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea. They were rushed to a local hospital and later referred to J.J. Hospital, where all four succumbed during treatment.
Forensic teams collected samples of various food items, including the suspected watermelon and chicken pulao, from the Dokadia residence for chemical analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory. Police have recorded statements from five guests who attended the gathering.
While the guests reported consuming the same pulao without ill effects, police are not ruling out other possibilities. Financial stress and potential suicide are being investigated, with Abdullah Dokadia's bank statements being examined. Autopsies have been performed, and viscera samples have also been sent for analysis. Doctors are awaiting the results before confirming the cause of death.
