A dangerous gas leak led to an explosion and fire in a chawl structure in Andheri East on Sunday morning, resulting in three injuries. The incident occurred around 7:15 am when accumulated gas ignited, causing significant damage.
One of the injured women was attempting to light a gas stove when the explosion happened, leading to extensive burns covering over 95 percent of her body. The force of the blast also damaged the door of an adjacent room, underscoring the severity of the incident.
Locals quickly transported the three injured individuals, identified as Namdev Sakpal (75), Lakshmi Sakpal (70), and Veena Bhoite (50), to Cooper Hospital. They were subsequently moved to Kasturba Hospital for further medical attention. Namdev Sakpal sustained 20-25% burns, Lakshmi Sakpal 30-32% burns, and Veena Bhoite suffered the most severe injuries.
