A tragic multi-vehicle accident on the Thumbaipatti flyover near Melur has resulted in five fatalities, including that of a three-year-old girl. The incident occurred when a car, carrying six occupants from Chennai to Tirunelveli, initially collided with a two-wheeler. Following this impact, the car's driver lost control.
The out-of-control vehicle then swerved into the opposing lane of traffic. It subsequently collided head-on with another car traveling from Madurai towards Trichy. The force of this second collision was so severe that the Chennai-bound car was completely crushed.
Four other occupants of the Chennai-bound car also died at the scene. Two individuals sustained severe injuries: one from the Chennai car and one from the Madurai-bound vehicle. They were promptly transported to Melur Government Hospital for medical attention. Traffic flow was temporarily disrupted but has since been restored by local authorities who have initiated an investigation.
