19 Jan
Summary
- President Chapo canceled Davos trip due to severe floods impacting hundreds of thousands.
- Heavy rains since mid-December have caused widespread flooding in three key provinces.
- South Africa deployed an air force helicopter to assist with Mozambique's rescue efforts.

Mozambique's President Daniel Chapo has canceled his planned attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week. The decision comes as the Southern African nation grapples with severe floods that have devastated infrastructure and impacted hundreds of thousands of its citizens.
Heavy rains, ongoing since mid-December, have led to widespread flooding across Mozambique's Gaza, Maputo, and Sofala provinces. Several river basins are currently above alert levels, and the United Nations estimates over 400,000 people have been affected, with this number projected to increase.
