A fatal traffic accident occurred Monday morning in Marion County, Florida, claiming the life of a 62-year-old motorcyclist. The incident happened around 5:50 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 475 and Southeast 178th Street.
Florida Highway Patrol reports indicate that a pickup truck, driven by a 71-year-old Summerfield man, was proceeding west on Southeast 178th Street. The driver stopped at a stop sign before making a wide right turn onto County Road 475. This maneuver placed the truck directly into the path of a motorcycle traveling south on County Road 475.
The motorcyclist, a 62-year-old Ocala man, was unable to avoid the collision. The front of his motorcycle impacted the left front of the pickup truck, ejecting the rider. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Authorities noted that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the pickup truck sustained no injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
