A devastating incident unfolded in Kolki village, Barwani district, where a 23-year-old woman, Rita, and her 15-day-old son lost their lives. Rita had recently returned to her maternal home from Amba Awtar village following childbirth. She reportedly left her house around 3 am, carrying her newborn. When her family discovered her missing, a search was initiated.
Her belongings, including her mobile phone and slippers, were found near a farm well. The recovery of Rita's body from the 60-foot well, which was filled with water, proved challenging for authorities and villagers. The infant's body was only found later after water was pumped out by an SDRF team.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting an inquiry. Initial findings suggest the woman may have been experiencing depression, although the exact cause is still under investigation. Following postmortem examinations, the bodies were handed over for last rites.
