Summary
- About 30 families and 70 children evacuated from a Montreal building fire.
- Firefighters rescued people from balconies during the large blaze.
- Three individuals were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

A major fire broke out in a mixed commercial and residential building in Montreal's Saint-Michel neighbourhood on Monday afternoon, leading to the evacuation of around 30 families and 70 children from a local daycare and the apartments above. The Montreal Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly before 1 p.m. on Saint-Michel Boulevard.
Firefighters encountered challenging conditions, with many residents needing rescue from their balconies. The entire four-storey building, which houses commercial spaces including the St-Michel Daycare on the ground floor and 36 residential units on the upper floors, had to be evacuated.
Three individuals were transported to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no children from the daycare or other residents sustained major injuries during the evacuation. The fire continued to burn into the early evening, prompting authorities to advise against travel in the affected area.
