Two third-year students from Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) perished late Wednesday night when their motorcycle veered off a poorly lit road and plunged into an 85-foot-deep gorge near Butibori. The victims, identified as Saksham Bansod and Aryan Sontakke, both 21, were using a shortcut route close to the university campus.
The tragedy went unnoticed for hours. The incident only came to light on Thursday morning around 7 am when a passerby discovered the bodies in the gorge and alerted authorities. Police registered a case of accidental death and sent the bodies for postmortem examination.
MNLU registrar confirmed the deaths, noting the accident occurred on a T-point near the college's rear entrance. The vice-chancellor stated the college was closed on Thursday to honor the students and pledged support to their families. Students described the shortcut as dangerous due to poor visibility, suggesting the gorge was not visible in the darkness.
