A search is ongoing for two paddleboarders, Genesis Jeru Bague and Mariz Bello, who disappeared on Saturday afternoon at Browning Lake in Murrin Provincial Park. The couple, who recently relocated to Vancouver from the Philippines after getting married, were reportedly on a paddleboard when they began struggling in the water. A video captured the paddleboard flipping and the couple in distress.
Rescue teams, including Squamish Search and Rescue and an RCMP underwater recovery team, were dispatched to the park. Despite utilizing underwater cameras and sonar equipment, efforts to locate Bague and Bello have been unsuccessful as of Tuesday. The family hopes for closure and to confirm the incident was an accident.
Genesis Hanzel Bague, the brother of one of the missing individuals, described his brother as adventurous and disciplined, noting his efforts to join the Vancouver police force and his support for their ill father in the Philippines. The couple had recently obtained their residency in Canada and were establishing their lives there.
