Linda and Gary Lightfoot, an elderly couple last seen on Thanksgiving Day, were confirmed to have been found in Quay County, New Mexico. The couple had been reported missing by their family on November 28th after they departed from Panhandle, Texas, and never reached their home in Lubbock. Their vehicle, a silver 2024 Toyota Camry, was detected by license plate readers in Groom, Texas, and later in San Jon, New Mexico, fueling concerns about their whereabouts.
Concerns for their safety were heightened due to Gary Lightfoot's dependence on oxygen, with indications he may have had only a day's supply. The family also reported the couple had experienced difficulty navigating to Panhandle before their holiday gathering. Despite tips from surrounding states and efforts by law enforcement utilizing helicopters and drones, the couple's exact situation remained unclear for a period.
Authorities have since confirmed the discovery of their bodies in New Mexico. The Carson County Sheriff's Office stated that no foul play is suspected in connection with their disappearance and subsequent recovery. The family has been notified of the tragic conclusion to the search.
