A devastating collision on Friday claimed the lives of four members of a Minnesota family during a celebration for Richard Johnson's 74th birthday. Richard and his wife Kathleen Johnson, alongside their daughters Kelly Hargus and Lindsey Rossow, perished when the 2019 Ford Transit Van they occupied collided head-on with an SUV. The other vehicle's driver, Martin Hanson, also died in the crash. He was found to be unlicensed, and the van lacked essential seatbelts, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Several other family members sustained injuries, with Lindsey's husband Eric Rossow and cousin Kassandra Ambrose suffering life-threatening wounds. The crash occurred over two decades after the Johnson family experienced another tragedy when Richard's son Eric died in a car accident on Christmas Day in 2004.
Support has been mobilized for the affected families through GoFundMe campaigns. One fundraiser aims to assist Eric Rossow and his children with expenses as he recovers from severe injuries, emphasizing his dedication to family and community. Another campaign is dedicated to covering funeral costs for Kelly Hargus, remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and friend. The family is described as close-knit, with the loss deeply impacting relatives and friends who cherish numerous memories.
