On June 15, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake was detected beneath the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. The seismic event originated 164 km southeast of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental province. Phivolcs, the Philippine state seismology agency, reported the earthquake’s depth at 86 km.
Authorities have stated that no damage is anticipated from this tremor. Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol clarified that the quake was along the Philippine Trench. This seismic activity is distinct from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that impacted Mindanao on June 8, with its epicenter located over 250 km away from the recent event. The earlier quake tragically claimed 65 lives and left 36 people missing.
