Michigan experienced a deadly weekend as severe storms caused widespread power outages affecting nearly half a million customers. The storms, which followed a period of extreme heat, downed trees and power lines across Metro Detroit.
Six fatalities were reported across the region. In Wayne County, three children tragically died from carbon monoxide poisoning due to generators operating inside their homes during the power disruptions. Another incident involved two children, aged 8 and 12, found unresponsive in a garage with a running generator.
Additionally, three people lost their lives in a fatal crash on Interstate 94 in Dearborn. Authorities stated that a passenger vehicle collided with a semitractor-trailer that had stopped because of significant flooding on the freeway. The incident occurred late Friday night, shortly after the storm had passed.
