Mercedes Recall: Lost Power Hazard
16 Apr
Summary
- Over 24,000 Mercedes vehicles recalled for propeller shaft malfunction.
- Vehicles may lose power without warning while in motion.
- Dealers will inspect and replace drive shafts on affected models.

Mercedes-Benz has initiated a recall affecting 24,092 vehicles because of a potential propeller shaft malfunction. This defect carries the risk of the vehicle losing propulsion unexpectedly while in motion. Reports from customers indicated instances of losing power without prior warning, although noise or vibration might not always precede the issue.
The recall, determined necessary on March 27, 2026, involves specific model years from 2018 to 2020, including various S-Class and E-Class 4MATIC variants, as well as Maybach S 560 models. Mercedes-Benz is aware of 30 warranty claims in the US between January 2022 and April 2025 related to this problem.
Authorized dealerships were notified on April 10, 2026, and customers will receive notices before June 2, 2026. Owners of affected vehicles should contact a dealer for a drive shaft inspection and replacement if necessary. A change in production procedures, effective from December 20, 2019, is intended to prevent this issue in newer vehicles.
