A final-year MBBS student at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, died on Tuesday evening after falling from the sixth floor of E-block. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM, and police are investigating it as a suspected suicide, though no definitive conclusion has been reached.
This tragic event is the second suspected suicide involving a medical student at GMCH this year. Previously, on June 2, a junior resident was found deceased, with syringes recovered near the body, prompting a similar suspected suicide classification. Police are awaiting a forensic report for that earlier case.
In response to growing concerns about student well-being, GMCH's director principal confirmed that regular counseling sessions are provided for students every Wednesday. Inquests have been initiated for the recent fatality, and authorities are interviewing friends. The student, a resident of Chandigarh, reportedly sent a lengthy message to a friend before the incident.
