A power outage struck McCully on Friday morning, November 6, leaving over a thousand customers in the dark. The incident, caused by a motor vehicle crash, affected about 1,340 Hawaiian Electric customers.
This disruption led to the malfunction of traffic signals at several busy intersections, including the convergence of Kalākaua Avenue and Kapiʻolani Boulevard, and Atkinson Drive and Kapiʻolani Boulevard. Hawaiian Electric confirmed the outage was not a Public Safety Power Shutoff.
Crews were dispatched at 7:30 a.m. to address the outage. By 8:50 a.m., most customers had their electricity back. However, about three customers continued to experience an outage as repair work persisted, with an estimated full restoration by 6 p.m. Hawaiian Electric advised residents to monitor their social media for updates.
