A farmer, identified as Pullerkatt Mohanan, in his 60s, died on Friday, May 29, after being attacked by a wild elephant outside his home in Kerala, southern India. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. when Mohanan stepped out after hearing the elephant, which had reportedly damaged his crops the previous day. He attempted to scare the animal away but was fatally trampled.
Following the attack, residents of Athirappilly organized a road blockade on Saturday, May 30, to protest the perceived lack of government accountability. The local village council president stated that the Minister for Forests & Wildlife Protection is expected to visit and hold a meeting. Assurances have been given that the elephant responsible will be relocated. Protesters have since ended their blockade but warn of further action if a permanent solution is not found.
