Dad's Final Note Revealed After Deadly Home Explosion
10 Mar
Summary
- A man died from severe burns following a home explosion.
- He had previously survived a similar explosion in 2019.
- His niece received a final note from him after his death.

An inquest into the death of Stuart Cooper, 49, heard he passed away following an explosion at his home on Pendennis Road, Penzance, on April 23, 2025. Mr. Cooper, a father of four, had a documented history of mental health issues and previous suicidal ideations.
Prior to the fatal incident, Mr. Cooper had survived a similar explosion in 2019. This earlier event resulted in over 60% burns and necessitated extensive surgeries, leaving him in considerable pain.
His niece, Emily Cooper, stated her uncle, whom she referred to as 'dad,' was a devoted Tottenham Hotspur fan, funny, and outgoing. She received a box containing a final note and documents after his passing, as instructed by Mr. Cooper.
Authorities determined there were no gas leaks or suspicious circumstances at the property. Evidence, including a note and a social media video, led the detective constable to believe Mr. Cooper intended to take his own life.
Assistant Coroner Emma Hillson concluded that, on the balance of probability, Mr. Cooper took his own life. She considered his mental health history, the note left for his niece, and a pre-death video post in reaching her decision.
