A horrific incident occurred in Hamburg, Germany, where a 37-year-old homeless man was tragically crushed to death inside a garbage truck. The man had reportedly been sleeping in a trash can when it was emptied into the truck by sanitation workers.
Authorities believe the bin was then taken to a paper recycling facility in the Billbrook district, where the contents, including the man, were compacted. His remains were discovered on October 9 around 5:30 pm by an employee.
An autopsy confirmed injuries consistent with the suspected compaction process. The man's identity was quickly established using a fingerprint app on his smartphone. The State Criminal Police Office is investigating the case.
This incident echoes a similar discovery in 2025 at another Hamburg recycling company, where a body was found in a compressed paper bale. While that case also led to an investigation, foul play was ruled out, and the death was deemed accidental.
