A skier tragically died at Mammoth Mountain on Thursday, marking the resort's fourth fatality of the season. The accident occurred on Dropout 2, one of the steepest marked trails, located near an expert ski lift. Witnesses reported that the skier fell heavily in icy moguls, lost control, and slid for a considerable distance down the mountain. Ski patrollers responded quickly, administering aid before the individual was transported to Mammoth Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.
This latest death follows a series of previous fatalities at Mammoth Mountain. Earlier in the season, a 71-year-old skier died on Christmas Day after being found in deep snow. Another incident involved a 30-year-old ski patroller, Cole Murphy, who died after being caught in a deliberately triggered avalanche while clearing slopes. A third death involved a snowboarder on January 16th. In a separate alarming event last weekend, a 12-year-old girl dangled from a ski lift before falling, though she miraculously escaped serious injury.
