A fatal collision in Madera on Saturday evening has raised questions about crosswalk safety. A 66-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed at the intersection of Vineyard Avenue and 6th Street around 6:50 p.m. The driver was traveling east on 6th Street and reportedly stopped briefly at the stop sign before proceeding into the intersection.
The pedestrian was walking north in the west crosswalk at the time of the impact. Despite life-saving measures by first responders, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained at the location and is cooperating with Madera Police Department investigators.
