A driver has been reunited with her phone, which held irreplaceable family photographs, after it was discovered on the roof of her vehicle. The device was lost when Tracy Carter joined the A14 at junction seven in Northamptonshire.
An observant National Highways officer noticed a reflection from a sticker on the phone as headlights passed, initiating the recovery effort. Carter expressed immense gratitude for the return of her phone, which contained cherished images of her grandchildren and her late mother.
Her son-in-law utilized a phone location app to aid in the search. Traffic officer Harry Marshall, patrolling the area, met with him and began searching the verge. Marshall noted the difficulty posed by low light conditions and the phone lying face down.
From a bridge, Marshall was able to spot the phone, facilitated by passing headlights. A National Highways manager emphasized the safety protocols, noting that retrieving items from high-speed roads is hazardous and that their 24/7 patrol officers are available to assist with such unusual situations, ensuring a happy ending.
