A birthday celebration in Nalasopara, India, took a grim turn on Saturday night when a cake contaminated with a dead house lizard caused food poisoning among 11 attendees. Seven children and four women experienced severe symptoms, including vomiting and abdominal pain, shortly after consumption.
Three of the affected children were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Vijayalakshmi Hospital, where their condition is reported as stable. Following the incident, police seized cake samples for testing, and the local mayor alerted the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The FDA conducted a search at the Chamunda cake shop, the alleged source of the cake. By Sunday, the FDA had cancelled the bakery's operating license due to the severe food safety violation.
