Summary
- Four fire crews are actively working to extinguish a fire at Stapleford Woods.
- Approximately 1,000 square meters of woodland have been affected by the blaze.
- Dry conditions are exacerbating the wildfire situation for firefighters.

Firefighters from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are continuing their efforts to control a substantial fire that ignited at Stapleford Woods. The incident, located near the Nottinghamshire border, has impacted an area measuring approximately 1,000 square meters, consuming grass, undergrowth, and woodland. Although the operation has been scaled down, it remains an ongoing concern.
The fire service has issued advisories for the public to steer clear of the affected area and to close doors and windows as a precaution against smoke. This event follows a series of wildfires in July, prompting fire officials to highlight the risks associated with hot, dry weather conditions. David Lynch, head of prevention and protection, noted that these dry conditions are creating significant challenges for firefighting operations, leading to continuous wildfire incidents of varying magnitudes.
Stapleford Woods, situated northeast of Newark, is recognized as the largest forest in the vicinity. Forestry England oversees a 35-year plan to transition parts of the conifer plantations, originally established to meet timber demands post-wartime deforestation, towards broadleaf woodland.
