As the summer season came to a close, the Jersey Shore experienced a surge in water rescues on October 5th, 2025. Warmer-than-average temperatures and sunny skies had enticed beachgoers to venture into the ocean, even though lifeguards had already departed for the season.
In the borough of Deal, a surfer pulled an unconscious swimmer from the ocean on Sunday afternoon. The swimmer regained consciousness before being transported to a nearby hospital by the Deal First Aid team. Meanwhile, in Sea Girt, a swimmer in distress made his way to a sand bar before being rescued by off-duty lifeguards who were performing maintenance work. He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
Authorities also responded to other water emergencies in Manasquan, Seaside Park, and Harvey Cedars over the warm weekend, though details of those incidents were not immediately available. Temperatures on October 5th reached the lower to middle 80s across the region, well above the typical early October highs in the lower 70s.
