Lewis County Flood: Roads Closed, Shelter Open

Lewis County is grappling with extensive flooding following heavy rainfall on Tuesday evening. Officials are strongly advising residents to remain home and avoid flooded areas, as emergency responders are actively engaged in rescue and recovery operations throughout the county.

A temporary shelter has been set up at Lewis County High School to provide a safe haven for individuals and families displaced by the rising waters. For those seeking information about missing persons, the West Virginia State Police can be contacted at 304-637-0200. All other emergencies should be directed to 911.

Several key roads, including sections of U.S. Route 33 and U.S. Route 19, remain closed to facilitate rescue and cleanup efforts. Motorists are cautioned to obey all closure signs and to only travel if absolutely necessary. Public assistance in self-deployment for rescue is discouraged at this time.

Essential donations for flood-affected residents are being collected by the Lewis County Family Resource Network at 240 Court Avenue in Weston. Urgent needs include baby diapers, trash bags, shovels, dehumidifiers, adult boots, cleaning supplies, and bottled water. Donation hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Further donation needs and volunteer opportunities will be announced.
