19 Apr
Summary
- A child was killed by a leopard while parents worked in the fields.
- The victim's body was found partially eaten near a brick kiln.
- This is the fifth fatal big cat attack in the Dudhwa buffer zone this year.

A young child, Dilshad, was tragically killed by a leopard while accompanying parents harvesting wheat in Nayapurwa village. The parents were unaware of the attack until the evening when they discovered their son missing. A search led to the recovery of the partially eaten body near a brick kiln in Nibauriya village. Forest officials confirmed leopard involvement through pugmarks found at the scene.
This incident is the fifth fatality attributed to big cat attacks in the Dudhwa buffer zone since January 10, raising concerns about increasing human-animal conflict. Officials noted that this attack occurred in an area previously without recorded leopard or tiger activity, suggesting territorial expansion. This trend is attributed to habitat pressure and a growing leopard population forcing animals into closer proximity with human settlements.
Forest range officers have intensified monitoring and installed cages to capture the animal. The victim's body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and financial assistance has been provided to the family, with further compensation to be issued as per regulations.
