A tragic incident at a sewage treatment plant in Gangwa village, Hisar, has resulted in the death of a 22-year-old laborer. Monu Kumar succumbed to toxic gas exposure while attempting to clear a blocked pipeline inside a sewage tank on Wednesday. The sudden release of accumulated gas inside the tank caused him and a colleague, Sonu, to lose consciousness.
Locals rescued both workers, but Monu was pronounced dead at the scene due to suffocation. Sonu was admitted to a private hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The family of the deceased has lodged a complaint, alleging that the workers were sent into the tank without essential safety gear like gas masks or oxygen cylinders.
Authorities have registered a case based on the family's statements and initiated a police investigation. The family is demanding that culpable homicide charges be filed against responsible officials and contractors, in addition to seeking compensation and a government job. The post-mortem report is awaited to guide further action.
