Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has issued a directive for "timely and coordinated preparedness" to mitigate potential losses during the upcoming monsoon season. He stressed that no negligence or administrative complacency would be tolerated from relevant departments.
Critical deadlines have been set for June 15, requiring the completion of vulnerability mapping, standard operating procedure training, and mock exercises. District emergency operation centers will operate around the clock to ensure an immediate and coordinated response.
Ongoing efforts include daily monitoring of glacial lakes and rainfall patterns, alongside a province-wide campaign to clean drains and sewerage lines. Significant progress has been reported in clearing drainage systems and removing encroachments.
Rescue 1122 has finalized the Monsoon Contingency Plan and is establishing water-rescue points. The health department is tasked with ensuring adequate stocks of essential medicines and emergency supplies.
The provincial government is also pre-positioning emergency stockpiles, including tents and relief materials, with a focus on district-specific needs. Community Based Disaster Risk Management Committees are nearing completion in all 36 districts.
Furthermore, an Education Continuity Plan is in place for camp schools, with evacuation and first response training for field staff due by May 30. Public awareness campaigns, including safety advisories and helpline information, will be disseminated.
