Engineer Missing Near Canal, Body Search Underway
12 Jul
Summary
- Software engineer Arindam Sen went missing near Bagjola Canal.
- Search for the missing engineer is complicated by poor visibility.
- Depression due to job loss is a suspected factor in his disappearance.
A software engineer, Arindam Sen, 34, has been reported missing from beside the Bagjola Canal in Kolkata since Saturday. Disaster response teams initiated an extensive search operation on Sunday, deploying speedboats and divers to locate him.
Sen, a resident of Kestopur's Rabindrapally, was last seen leaving his apartment on Saturday around 4:30 PM. His family grew concerned when he did not return and his phone was unreachable. They suspect he may have fallen into the canal and subsequently filed a missing person's report.
Compounding the search efforts, underwater visibility in the canal is extremely poor, near zero. Heavy monsoon undercurrents and accumulated waste further obstruct the specialized divers, forcing rescuers to rely on draglines and surface tracking from speedboats.
Friends described Sen as a quiet and brilliant professional who had become increasingly reclusive following a job loss a few months prior. Police are investigating his acquaintances and examining his phone records and social media activity to ascertain his mental state before his disappearance. A thorough search for a suicide note has yielded no results so far. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is also being reviewed to reconstruct his final movements.
