Kitesurfer's tragic drowning: 'Goofing around' before fatal accident
5 Aug
Summary
- Experienced kitesurfer drowned after hitting his head and losing consciousness.
- The victim was described as a devoted husband and father by his wife.
- The accident occurred on a remote Hebridean island in Scotland.

An inquest heard that Jonathan Peskett, a 54-year-old airline pilot and experienced kitesurfer, tragically drowned last autumn on a remote Hebridean island. His friend, Matthew Taylor, reported that Mr. Peskett was "goofing around" just moments before the incident, which occurred in moderate conditions on October 30, 2025.
Mr. Taylor found Mr. Peskett unresponsive in the water after his kite went down. He was able to drag him to the beach and initiate CPR. Emergency services were called, but Mr. Peskett was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is believed Mr. Peskett suffered a blow to the head, causing him to lose consciousness and subsequently drown. His wife, Deborah, paid tribute to him as a "devoted" father and husband who "lived life at full throttle."
