Kirklees Roads Get Safety Upgrades After Collisions

Traffic calming measures are set to be implemented on two Kirklees roads following concerns about collisions and injuries. Speed cushions and raised road features will soon appear on Sunny Bank Road in Mirfield and Commercial Road in Skelmanthorpe. These initiatives were approved by Kirklees Council's Cabinet Committee for Local Issues with the goal of decreasing the frequency and seriousness of accidents and casualties in these areas.
Both projects will be financed through the government's City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement, which allocates funds for transport enhancements. Official police data revealed that Sunny Bank Road in Mirfield experienced seven personal injury collisions between 2020 and 2025, leading to nine casualties, five of whom sustained serious injuries. Inappropriate vehicle speeds were highlighted as a contributing factor in a council report, with most incidents occurring near junctions.
