The search for missing persons following a devastating landslide at a Kerala tunnel project has concluded, with the recovery of the eighth and final body. Construction manager Vikram Rana, who was reported missing after the July 7 incident, was identified on Sunday. His body was found approximately 350 meters downstream from the Meenakshi bridge.
Intensified search operations, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Special Operations Group, and other emergency services, were launched on Sunday after previous efforts proved unsuccessful. Kerala Agriculture Minister T Siddique oversaw the division of the affected river stretch into sectors for comprehensive searches, utilizing CCTV footage and worker input.
Traffic was restricted on the Meppadi-Chooralmala road to facilitate the operation. State Police Chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar visited the site to review rescue and investigative efforts. A decision on formally ending the search will be made after consulting all involved agencies, and work to clear the landslide-affected road is slated to begin soon.
