Jodhpur Factory Fire: Six Firefighters Rushed to Jaipur
25 Sep
Summary
- Six firefighters transferred to Jaipur for specialized burn treatment.
- Chemical-filled drums exploded, causing fire and injuring responders.
- Investigation into factory owner and cause of fire is underway.
Six of the fourteen fire department personnel injured in a Wednesday evening fire at a Jodhpur handicraft factory have been transferred to Jaipur for enhanced medical treatment. These firefighters were moved from Mahatma Gandhi Hospital to SMS Hospital in Jaipur on Thursday.
The transfer occurred after their families expressed a desire for them to receive superior care. Traffic police facilitated their swift passage by creating a green corridor, stopping traffic at various points. Each ambulance was accompanied by medical staff.
The fire originated at the Basni factory and escalated rapidly due to explosions from chemical-filled drums. Firefighters sustained severe burns while attempting to control the blaze, with sudden explosions complicating their efforts. Initially taken to AIIMS-Jodhpur, they were later moved to MG Hospital.
Authorities have initiated a case against the factory owner. Preliminary findings suggest a short circuit may have sparked the fire, which then spread quickly upon contact with chemicals stored in the factory's godown. The factory was reportedly closed at the time of the incident.
