The outing, part of the school's 'School of the Wild' program, took a tragic turn when authorities were alerted to a critical situation near the Coralville Reservoir spillway.
First responders were dispatched to the location and, following an extensive search, recovered a woman who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was identified as Hannah Jorgensen, 24, from Tiffin, Iowa. The search continued into the following day for a missing child.
Early Wednesday afternoon, a 10-year-old boy, identified as Ahmed Osman from Iowa City, was found in the water. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding these devastating drownings during what was intended to be an educational field trip.
