A devastating accident occurred on Sunday morning in Surat when a nine-month-old girl lost her life after falling into an open drainage pit. The infant, identified as Gauri alias Amruta, was the youngest child of a worker employed at the Pandesara GIDC printing mill.
According to her father, the child had woken early and was last seen with her siblings. It is believed she crawled towards the nearby drainage pit while playing and fell through an opening. Despite her family quickly pulling her from the pit, she could not be revived.
The grieving family has raised concerns, alleging that the uncovered drain presented a serious safety hazard, particularly given that workers and their families reside on the mill's premises. Pandesara police have registered an accidental death case and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
