Summary
- Judicial commission investigating Indore water contamination extended evidence submission deadline.
- The new deadline for submitting evidence is April 1, 2026.
- The commission is probing causes, deaths, and administrative lapses related to water contamination.

A judicial commission in Indore has extended the deadline for submitting evidence concerning a deadly drinking water contamination incident. Officials announced on March 2, 2026, that the period for providing objections, representations, documents, and other materials related to the Bhagirathpura water crisis has been pushed to April 1, 2026. This extension accommodates requests from individuals and organizations needing more time to submit factual information. The commission, headed by former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Justice Sushil Kumar Gupta, is tasked with a thorough investigation. It aims to determine the root causes of the contamination, assess the loss of lives and health impacts on residents. The probe also scrutinizes administrative lapses and recommends actions against those responsible, alongside proposing remedial measures. This follows an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhea in late December 2025, attributed to contaminated drinking water. While local reports and the Congress party suggest 36 deaths, the state's health minister stated 22 fatalities in the assembly. The commission is actively seeking evidence such as patient medical records, death certificates, and photographic or video proof of pipeline leakage and sewage mixing.
