Indonesian authorities have launched an intensive search for a missing fisheries surveillance aircraft carrying 10 individuals. The plane, operated by Indonesia Air Transport, lost contact with air traffic control on Saturday afternoon around the Maros region in South Sulawesi province.
Three government employees from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries were on board the ATR 42-500 aircraft, along with at least seven crew members. The flight had departed from Yogyakarta Province and was heading to Makassar when the incident occurred. Unconfirmed flight data indicates a sudden loss of altitude before it disappeared from tracking systems.
Search and rescue efforts, involving approximately 400 personnel from military and police units, are currently underway, with a suspected crash site near Mount Bulusaraung. However, severe weather conditions are posing significant challenges to the operation.
