India Pledges $450M for Sri Lanka Cyclone Aid

India has committed a substantial USD 450 million reconstruction package to Sri Lanka in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, serving as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Special Envoy, conveyed this assurance during a visit to Colombo.
The package includes USD 350 million in concessional Lines of Credit and USD 100 million in grants, aimed at rehabilitating critical infrastructure such as roads, railways, and bridges, alongside support for housing, health, and education sectors. India's swift response, Operation Sagar Bandhu, delivered over 1100 tonnes of relief materials and medical aid immediately after the cyclone's landfall.
During his visit, Jaishankar also inaugurated a Bailey bridge in the Kilinochchi District, a severely affected area. He met with Sri Lanka's President, Prime Minister, and other key leaders, reaffirming India's unwavering support for the island nation's recovery and economic stabilization.
