A significant incident involving a gas tanker crash and explosion occurred on I-471 near Memorial Parkway in Northern Kentucky. The collision, which happened shortly after 10 p.m. on a Friday, ignited a large fire visible from afar.
Officials have confirmed that all individuals involved in the crash have been accounted for. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. Governor Andy Beshear stated that three people were taken to the hospital, all suffering from minor injuries.
In response to the explosion, both northbound and southbound lanes of I-471 and Memorial Parkway were closed. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) worked diligently to assess damage and implement necessary repairs.
By Saturday evening, KYTC announced that all lanes of I-471 had been reopened. This reopening involved temporary repairs, including milling and paving the southbound lanes, to restore travel. Further permanent repairs to the interstate, median barrier wall, and a sign on the Memorial Parkway overpass are scheduled for this spring.
